MBSR is an 8-week program that reduces stress and anxiety and promotes a better quality of life. It is designed to help people learn how to deal effectively with physical and emotional stresses.

The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program consists of eight 2.5-hour classes and a one full-day session. A free introduction to the program is offered the week prior to the start of the program.

What is MBSR?

MBSR provides training in mindfulness meditation and gentle yoga stretching exercises, which will promote relaxation and the ability to cope with stress, pain and the challenges of everyday life, chronic illness or life-threatening disease.

The program is modeled on the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. founder of the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society (CFM). Dr. Kabat-Zinn is the author of several books, including Full Catastrophe Living, which will be referenced in this course. Dr. Kabat-Zinn’s work has also been featured in Bill Moyers’ television series "Healing and the Mind."

MBSR has been shown to be effective in helping those with:
